Several months of design development and meetings with the Department of Game, Fish and Parks and the public Development Committee resulted in specific outdoor educational amenities specific to the unique and wonderful site.  Some of the designed facilities include a beach, casting doc,  water side stone stepping area around the lake, five major outdoor classrooms including a picnic shelter, two shade canopies covered seating areas, a treehouse and pavilion, and a variety of other features.  The campus is centered around the “Heart of the Campus”, a two acre area where a natural playground, large native grass lawn and other facilities make a fun and active  place to focus planned outdoor activities.  The majority of the site is left as a natural area with both natural surface and crushed stone pathways connecting a native garden, boardwalks through a wetland, and to the adjacent city Wilderness Park. The project was completed in the fall of 2011.

Landscape architects design for pedestrians while understanding the implications of vehicular traffic. When it is done well this relationship appears seamless.

Land Elements collaborated with the City of Fargo’s engineering department from the conceptual design through construction to develop Fargo’s first complete street, where people move in harmony in an urban setting.

One of the most impressive skills that landscape architects possess is the ability to communicate a complex idea through the use of lines and language.

The Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) Integrated Science Center and surrounding common areas were designed to teach sustainability firsthand. This LEED certified project required a solution to manage the stormwater from the building’s roof. The living lab at the building’s entry features native plants to demonstrate how to manage stormwater in a sustainable way.

Investing in our common future is not simply done through design.
The Nebraska-Dakotas Chapter is proud to support three Student ASLA chapters through relationships with North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University, and University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
